Being an emergent baptist means being a person of faith who is committed to the church community, intellectual curiosity, storytelling and narrative, going beyond the "traditional", and trying to understand God and Christ in light of a society that is rapidly changing. An emergent baptist is one who understands their baptist heritage but wants to continue moving towards a more focused Church with less denominational split and more Christ-centeredness.
What do you love to do?
I'm currently finishing up my undergrad degree in religion and beginning my masters of divinity degree, so I (obviously) love to read and discuss theology. Besides that nerdy thing, I love to travel, explore the urban jungle, drink coffee, help people, watch baseball, drive, and sleep.
What books have meant the most to you?
That's such a difficult question to answer...but, I might say books like "God in the Alley" by Greg Paul, "Meeting Jesus Again for the First Time" by Marcus Borg, "Torture and Eucharist" by William Cavanaugh, and "The Wounded Healer" (and anything else) by Henri Nouwen. I'm slowly finding a renewed sense of dedication and appreciation for the Bible.
What music best articulates your soul?
Ha. I listen to all types of music from independent Christian artists to modern rock to rap and hip/hop.
Who are the historical baptist personalities you identify with most?
I'll get back to you on that one...
Who are the theologians, philosophers, teachers, etc. that you live in dialog with?
Henri Nouwen, Stanley Hauerwas, and John Howard Yoder.
